Dental erosion and acidic foods go hand in hand with each other. Oftentimes, dental erosion is a direct cause of acidic foods in your diet. In addition, sugars in foods and drinks can be converted into harmful acids in your mouth that can easily destroy your precious tooth enamel. Protect your teeth by improving your diet.

Remove all foods and drinks that could be highly acidic or sugary. However, if some products cannot be removed, be sure to consume them with larger meals to help neutralize the effects of the acids. In some cases, it may be wise to forgo all snacks in general, as snack time is often detrimental to your oral health and can increase your risk for tooth decay and gum disease.

Dental erosion is also caused by abrasive cleaning tools when used after meals. When eating, your teeth can become highly sensitive and easily susceptible to abrasion, including from toothpaste. To avoid any potential damage to your teeth, do not brush after meals, and instead, try using mouthwash or a saliva-inducing product such as sugarless chewing gum.
