If you’re an athlete who practices or plays in a contact sport without the protection of a high-quality mouthguard, you are at extreme risk of suffering a dental trauma. Should one or more teeth be knocked out by a hard blow to the face, chances are good that it will result in the total loss of the teeth.

If a root canal can’t restore the knocked-out teeth, Dr. David Cho might recommend extracting the remnants from the sockets. Once everything has healed, he can help you understand your options for restoring the presence and function of the teeth.

While dental implants can certainly restore the teeth, it could require multiple oral surgeries and it might prove to be cost prohibitive for your current situation. Should this prove to be the case, your dentist might recommend fitting you for a removable partial denture.

This is made from the same materials you find in dentures. It is designed to replicate the missing teeth in one location of your mouth.

Dr. David Cho will start by examining your mouth and taking a few x-rays to make sure the surrounding teeth are healthy. If he finds that additional teeth in the area are suffering from damage or decay, he will offer a treatment plan for them. This might include additional extractions. They can then be added to the partial.

Our dental technicians will make a detailed impression of the area. This includes the underlying gums, neighboring teeth and the corresponding teeth in your bite. The impression will then be sent to a dental lab where your new partial will be custom made to match your mouth.

While the partial will fit tightly in place, you might want to also use a little a little denture adhesive. This will give you an extra hold and will block out food material from working into the base of the gums.
